How the protagonist of Ella the Engineer will look like.
New York native Anthony Onesto noticed that there was a lack of female engineers in the tech industry. This observation inspired him to to create a cartoon starring a female engineer to inspire young girls.
Based on his observations, the father of three found that there were a lack of female protagonists in cartoons who could solve problems “with an engineering or software mind.” He also realized that many girls had no interest in the tech industries.
Onesto titled his series “Ella The Engineer”, and has taken to Indiegogo to crowdfund a pilot episode. His goal is to make a series and launch it on a major network.
“What we intend to do with Ella is to promote this profile and expose young kids to software coding and engineering at a very young age,” he stated. “We created the concept to help drive more interest in this area, so that future generations of girls (and boys) would grow up with at least some knowledge and interest in engineering.”
We sure hope Onesto will succeed—if he does not manage to raise enough funds, he will donate the money to organizations like Girls Who Code to empower young women.
