Comic Sans is the typeface that everyone loves to hate—but what if you can use it for good, in support of cancer research?
This is precisely what London-based graphic designer Chris Flack aims to do—to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Comic Sans, he has started the “Comic Sans for Cancer” project, where he is inviting you to design an A2 poster using the generally loathed typeface.
According to Flack, he wanted a “a fun and quirky way to raise awareness and money for Cancer Research”—in the PDF guide to the project, he says, “Everyone loves to hate Comic Sans – so why not take the font the everyone loves to hate and put it to good use? As a designer I despise Comic Sans and that's the fun of it.”
We love the humorous, mockingly dramatic way in which Flack has framed the project—for instance, he “apologized in advanced to the design gods for the design sins” that are to be committed in the name of this project.
Knowing that all proceeds from “Comic Sans for Cancer” would be going to Cancer Research UK may make you feel better about using Comics Sans. Follow the project on Twitter for updates.
