US artist Brian Goggin created an installation titled "Defenestration"—meaning "to throw out of a window"—which has been on display since 1997. The 17 year long project will come to an end with the slated demolition of its exhibition site, the abandoned Hugo Hotel, this September.
Sightings of "animated" furnitures popping out from windows, tables with "insect-like legs" leaping off the roofs and others escaping down the building walls have become an iconic presence in the neighborhood that "reflects the harsh experience of many members of the community that is cast-off and unappreciated".
With the upcoming demolition plans, art collectors can now purchase these furniture sculptures here.
