Eye-Opening Photographs Show What Human Bodies Look Like At Age 100 And Beyond

Photographer Anastasia Pottinger has an on-going eye-opening series titled ‘Centenarians’ that shows what human bodies look like at age 100 and beyond.

Pottinger was moved to embark on her project after taking nude portraits of a 101-year-old woman, and felt a strong attachment to the resulting images.

Shot in stark black-and-white, the close-up images capture human bodies in their nude glory, warts and all.

Pottinger’s photos of wrinkles, saggy flesh, calloused features and discolored skin have a dignified and unexpected beauty, leaving you to ponder your own mortality as you view them.

They were well-received and have struck a chord with viewers due to their universal nature; everyone ages and the photos shine a light on what our bodies might eventually look like.

Apart from documenting the beauty of aging bodies, Pottinger said it was the trust and intimacy established between her and the models that made the project extra special.

Through her images, Pottinger wants people to consider the impermanence of youth, and find beauty in aging and the transformation of our bodies over time.
