Ben Blatt of Slate has created a set of fascinating maps that shows the most common languages spoken in each US state.
He put the maps together using data taken from responses to the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.
Apart from English obviously being the most common-spoken language with Spanish coming in second, they reveal interesting patterns and facts about each state.
For example, Navajo is most widely-spoken Native American language, while Swedish is the most common Scandinavian language spoken across the board.
As for Indo-Aryan languages, it appears Hindi leads the pack, while the Kru, Ibo, Yoruba is the most prevalent African language.
