Designer Creates An Iron Inspired By Hair Straighteners, For Busy People

UK-based product and furniture designer Laura Nelson has come up with a convenient alternative for the typical iron.

The iron—as part of her ‘Simple Convenience’ project—functions like a hair straightener, and features two-aluminium plates as hot surfaces, to clamp the fabric from both sides with its hinging mechanism, and iron the material flat.

“I’m acknowledging behavioural habits by focusing on panels and sections of garments, such as collars and sleeves,” Nelson told Dezeen.

The iron features three-heat settings, a heat-resistant sleeve, and has an angular shape to easily fit in spaces between buttons to flatten out wrinkles.

Nelson hopes the iron accommodates users with busy lifestyles, and eliminate the need for an ironing board.
