Bookstore Gives Out Free Books With Gorgeous Fake Covers, To Promote Reading

Utah bookstore Weller Book Works has created a series of seven pulp literature-inspired fake book covers as part of their Operation Bookdrop campaign to promote reading and literacy.

Designed by Utah-based design agency Super Top Secret, Operation Bookdrop scattered 878 free books around Salt Lake City, with each one sleeved in one of the gorgeously illustrated fake covers.

Featuring clever, impactful slogans like “The only thing better than that new book smell is that old book smell” and “A book is the best tool to sharpen a dull mind”, these covers takes a fun approach to spreading the love for reading.

Including titles such as Water For Elephants by Sarah Gruen and Breakfast With Buddha by Roland Merullo, these free books were donated by various publishers.

Although readers are encouraged to pick up these books, read them and then leave them in a public area for others to find, we have a feeling that book-lovers in the city will be keeping these for their own bookshelves.
