The ‘Omni’ is an ‘omnidirectional’ treadmill that allows users to walk through virtual worlds and video games using their own feet.
Compatible with any software that uses keyboard input, the ‘Omni’ also works with the Occulus Rift virtual reality goggles to achieve total immersion in a virtual world.
The ‘Omni’ has a grooved, low-friction surface which a user walks on using a special shoe.
This allows the recreation of free and natural movement. Software then translates movements such as walking, crouching and jumping into keystrokes, which moves your virtual in-game avatar.
The project is currently up on Kickstarter if you’d like to pledge for it.
