One research group from MIT Media Lab, Playful Systems is embarking on a social experiment called 20 Day Stranger.

20 Day Stranger aims to gives people a fresh perspective on life and increase compassion and understanding between strangers who have never met, and most probably never will.

Through an app on your smartphone, you can be connected to a complete stranger for 20 days, even knowing details such as where they go and when they get out of bed.

Kevin Slavin, director of the MIT Media Lab’s Playful Systems group says, “This is about finding a way of opening a window, the idea isn’t to make your life transparent, it’s to give just enough to wonder and imagine and ultimately, to care.”

During this time, you will never learn the person’s name, and you can only send them a single message when the 20 days is up.
