A subsidiary of American Eagle, the lingerie store Aerie has launched a series of empowering ads that feature models that have not been touched up with Photoshop.
These “Aerie Real” body-positive ads encourage young women from the ages of 15 to 21 to be confident of themselves, and serve to assure women that they do not have to look like the stick-thin models that are often portrayed in the media.
Although the campaign has gone viral, the models shown are still a lot thinner than most American women. Featuring more women of different races and body types would also make the campaign more effective in bringing across its message.
What do you think—are these ads a step in the right direction?
