Young Photographer Takes Surreal And Playful Self-Portraits That Distort Reality

Stockholm-based photographer Malin Bergman takes surreal and playful self-portraits that will make you do a double take.

On first glance it appears as though she has her back facing the camera, but a closer inspection reveals the reverse.

Bergman uses her long red hair to create intriguing optical illusions, letting her portraits speak for themselves and inviting viewers to interpret them with their imagination.

Her photo series began as an art project on self-portraits where she experimented with taking photos of her hair combed over her face, and discovered she liked the ambiguity they produced.

“I get very inspired by the surrealism in my pictures, but I try to make that influence just slightly noticeable. I hope that my photos affect the viewers in a way that makes him/her stop and view the picture one more time and let their own fantasies decide what the photo really shows.”
