We’ve previously featured illustrations of Barbie that accurately represent women, and a regular-sized Barbie doll that promotes realistic beauty standards.
Now Wisconsin-based video game designer Jim Rodda has come up with cool 3D-printed armor for Barbie. The self-described Game of Thrones fan had originally planned to give his four-year-old niece hand-made ‘My Little Pony’ accessories for her birthday, but turned his attention to the famous doll instead.
“I wanted to make something that I would want to play with, and I’m not all that interested in glittery fashion stuff and heels.”
Instead of girly dresses and shoes, Rodda’s battle-ready doll will be clad in shiny armor from head to toe. Unlike other designs that portray real women’s figures more realistically, Rodda is keeping the original doll’s proportions, saying that he just wants to give people the option of dressing her in armor.
Lest you think the doll and armor come together, do note that Rodda is only producing the armor and is not selling any dolls. The armor will fit the ‘Barbie Fashionistas Doll’ line.
The project is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. If you already have a 3D printer at home, you can download a copy of the ‘Athena Makeover Kit’ that Rodda is giving away here, and start kitting out your Barbie in medieval warrior gear.
Check out the prototypes below and head over to Kickstarter to pledge for it.
