Russian photographer Irina Popova has released a series of striking and thought-provoking images entitled ‘Anfisa's family’ that she captured after spending two weeks living with Lila, a drug addict whom she happened to meet on the streets, her boyfriend, Pasha, and their baby daughter, Asfina.
The photographs invite viewers into the unpolished experience of what it is for Asfina to be in a family where her parents are alcohol and drug addicts. She can be seen playing with cigarettes and even becomes a prop while her mom asks for money from drivers by the road side.
The photo series also provokes the question on whether photographers are merely observers who capture what is happening in front and around them, or are they obligated and allowed to intervene in the lives of their subjects.
What do you think?
