Photo Series Captures The Beautiful But Tragic Bond Between Two Brothers

Norway-based photographer Elin Hoyland has photographed an intense series entitled ‘Brothers’, in which she documents the final years of a bond between two brothers.

Harald, who was 75-years-old and Mathias, who was 80-years-old had never gotten married, choosing to spend their lives on the small farm they were born and brought up on instead. They enjoyed following a daily routine of chopping wood, feeding wild birds, and listening to the radio together.

It ended tragically when Harald died of an asthma attack, and Mathias ended his life shortly after moving to an old folks’ home.

Hoyland’s images of the brothers tell their heartbreaking story in a very intimate and beautiful way, celebrating the special bond they had while they were alive.
