Art Installation Makes Use Of ‘For Rent’ Sign To Follow People Around

A self-professed inventor of useless things, Niklas Roy has observed that many shops are for rent in Sherbrooke, Canada, and has come up with a way to make these “For Rent” signs a little more dynamic.

Wired to a computer program which detects the movement of people, the sign was able to come to life, “stalking” people as they walked past the storefront.

As opposed to ignoring these signs, people began to interact with them, with some trying to see if they could get the sign to stop following them.

This interactive work of art draws attention to what is going around the city, and urges people to think about the changes around them.
