Black Ink Drawings That Look Like Fingerprint Whorls

Upon closer inspection, Nicolas Jolly’s monochrome drawings look as if they were embedded in the whorls of a fingerprint.

He uses a crosshatch method, creating a helter-skelter effect of varying lines across the page. The whorl patterns are slightly hypnotic, resembling van Gogh’s swirly brushwork.

Even with the absence of color, the texture and dimension in his drawings make them stand out and hold your attention.

Concentrate for a few seconds on one of his drawings. Can you see it moving?
