In a bid to prevent ‘material wastage’ in IKEA’s ‘PS cabinet’, German designer Samuel Treindl created useful objects by cutting out shapes from the furniture piece.
Using the process he calls “parasitic strategy”, he ‘borrows’ parts that he feels are not critical to the Swedish furniture giant’s distinctive metal cabinet—such as the back and side of it—and fabricates them into matching clocks, lamps and ornamental bowls, to show the possibilities that can be simultaneously obtained.
“As a producer and designer, I have to pay attention to the manufacturing of products, but also to offcuts and wasted material,” Treindl told Frameweb.
