Germany-based Polish artist Roman Klonek makes gorgeous woodcut illustrations with lovely details using just pencils, a carving knife, chisels and screw clamps.
Using what he calls the “lost cut” technique, he prints out all the colors using just one plate instead of creating a separate plate for each color—while this saves him time, it also means that the number of prints made is strictly limited as the wood plate is ruined at the end and there can be no re-takes.
The prints Klonek produces are colorful with a vintage vibe—one of the inspiration for his work are the Polish and Russian cartoons of his childhood.
