British Design Website Goes Mice-Crazy For April Fools’ Day

If you visited British design website It’s Nice That yesterday, you might have done a double take at its homepage.

The influential website rang in April Fools’ Day by becoming ‘It’s Mice That’, turning its homepage into a charming rodent-themed one for 24 hours.

Readers got an eyeful of a picture of adorable mice for a main article chronicling the lives of harvest mice. More mice-related articles followed; some obvious and others less so, including one for a cheese company ad, a mousetrap photography series, and a write-up celebrating Art Spiegelman’s seminal Maus graphic novel.

Apart from being delightfully funny and an obvious pun on the website’s name, it was great to witness the amazing effort gone into curating the content, as well as the superb attention to detail–the website even changed its URL address to itsmicethat.com.

The diverse mix of topics ranging from graphic design to photography also gave the prank extra pizzazz, and what made it all the more wonderful was the fact that all the stories featured were real.

News of the stunt spread on Twitter with many giving it the thumbs-up, and it even got picked up by the likes of fellow design websites Coolhunting and Swiss Miss.

If you missed out on this momentous occasion, fret not. Find out how the It’s Nice That team pulled off their stunt in their marvelously detailed explanation and read all 12 mice-related articles here.

What do you think of the stunt and how do you think it measures up to other April Fools’ Day pranks?
