Technology company IBM—who previously created the world’s smallest stop-motion video—can now add the title of the ‘world’s smallest magazine cover’ to its list of accolades.

Unveiled at the USA Science and Engineering Festival in Washington DC last week, IBM researchers created a 11 x 14 micrometer cover for the National Geographic Kids magazine.

To create the microscopic cover, which featured a pair of adorable pandas, researchers invented a tiny “chisel” with a heatable silicon top that was a “100,000 times smaller than a sharpened pencil point”.

The cover was so small that 2,000 of them could fit on a grain of salt.
