Following the success of its ‘Real Beauty Sketches’ from last year, Dove has shared a new social experiment online, in which they offer a new “beauty patch” to women that promises to enhance the way they perceive their own beauty.
Titled ‘Dove: Patches’, the ad shows several women being invited to be part of a research group to test a beauty patch called ‘RB-X’. They were instructed to wear it on their arms and record a video diary of how they felt after each day.
Most of them didn’t feel any changes at first, but later said that they felt more beautiful and confident about themselves.
At the end of the testing, the women were invited back and were asked if they wanted to know what was inside the patch that gave them confidence. It turns out that the patch contained nothing and was actually a placebo.
“We have heard from thousands of women about how their complicated relationship with beauty affects their overall confidence and happiness,” said Jennifer Bremner, a brand building director for Dove on Mashable. “By illustrating through the Dove: Patches film that a positive state of mind and openness can help them feel more beautiful, we hope to inspire all women and help change the way they see themselves.”
