Shooting with expired film can have unpredictable results—New York-based photographer Daniel Zvereff brought the last remaining stock of expired Kodak Aerochrome 120 film to the Arctic and produced a stunning photo series.
In these pictures that are shot on the discontinued infrared film, the wild, beautiful natural landscapes of the Arctic is stained in bright pinks, purples and blues.
Originally developed for military use to detect camouflage, the Aerochrome 120—which turns green into lavender and magentas, and brown into vivid blues—was later adapted for civilian use.
With upcoming mining developments and global warming, the Arctic may soon look very different from how it does now—according to Zvereff, “It only seemed appropriate to photograph its incredible natural beauty using a film that is no longer in existence.”
