To commemorate Andy Warhol’s birthday on the 6th of August, the Andy Warhol Museum has launched a live video feed which anyone with internet access can view.
Making use of the webcam network EarthCam, this project has been named ‘Figment’, as Warhol once stated that he wanted his own tombstone to have that word on it as an epitaph.
Located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Warhol’s grave is a pilgrimage site for many admirers, who leave behind replicas of his famous artworks.
“[It’s] a really fantastic way to put Andy on the air 24/7 and plug in to our global audience,” stated Eric Shiner, the director of The Andy Warhol Museum.
Perhaps the late Andy Warhol would be pleased, knowing that he is still as influential or “plugged in” a quarter of a century after his death.
