In NYC, A Heated Bus Stop Promotes Florida And Provides Warmth To Commuters

New Yorkers recently braved record low temperatures and massive snowfall during the polar vortex earlier this month, and this didn’t escape the attention of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau in Florida.

To get New Yorkers to visit Florida during the winter, the Florida tourism board recently installed a heated bus stop as part of its ‘The Beach Looks Good on You’ campaign. Commuters can lounge on beach-inspired benches and will receive free sunglasses and Metro cards.

The campaign coincides with the Super Bowl, which attracts locals and visitors from out of state. Other activities include a week-long event at Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall on 28 January which will feature live music and video of Fort Lauderdale beaches, solar-charging stations and airfare giveaways by JetBlue Airways. The same event will be held at JFK Airport’s Terminal 5 and will run for a week ending on Super Bowl Monday.

For New Yorkers looking for some warmth while out and about, the bus stop is located at Lexington and Third Avenue and will be open for a month.
