Magnificent Life-Size Driftwood Horse Sculptures Galloping Across A Beach

British sculptor James Doran-Webb created these magnificent life-size horse sculptures out of salvaged driftwood as part of an on-going series.

He has been based in the Philippines for years, where he built an extensive network of driftwood gatherers to assist him with his works. He sorts through his collection of driftwood to find pieces that best express the animals' form in order to make them as realistic as possible.

Doran-Webb has always been interested in wood, having spent his childhood surrounded by antiques in the workshops of his parents’ antiques restoration company. In 2005, he started working with driftwood and experimenting with animal sculptures. He is inspired by motion and strives to embody the sensation of movement in his works.
