A Futuristic Concept For A Hotel That Floats Away When Sea Levels Rise

Russian design firm Remi Studio has come up with a futuristic design for a hotel that will float away when the sea levels rise.

The Ark Hotel, which resembles a shell, is made to be fully waterproof—it is equipped with a lower half that displaces enough water for the structure to stay afloat.

“The large area and oval shape help make it stable during wind and storms. It’s not a ship and isn’t intended for self-navigation, but it can drift and it can be towed in the right direction by another ship,” stated Alexander Remizov, an architect behind the project.

The building is designed to accommodate large weights as it has a prefabricated frame that uses few materials, which can be quickly assembled in emergencies. The structure can also withstand earthquakes.

This self-sufficient hotel is equipped with solar panels, a wind generator, and recycles all waste produced. The structure generates enough energy to power homes and electric cars.

The eco-friendly space within is also filled with plants to clear the air, and there is a lounge to help guests relax.

This design was submitted to a competition by the International Union of Architects. The competition asked architects to submit building designs that would help people affected by disasters.

Although this design has yet to be realized, it may possibly pave the way for structures that will come in handy when natural disasters strike.
