Daughter Takes ‘Sexy’ Photos Of Mother, Confronts Our View Of Older Women

Hailing from Colorado, photographer Natalie Krick asked her mother to pose “sexily” for her project, ‘Natural Deceptions’.

Drawing inspiration from vintage Playboy covers, the 27-year-old got her mother Candace to wear wigs, apply gaudy make-up and even placed skittles in her bra to make her nipples look erect.

Although her mother is “shy” and “insecure”, she still agreed to pose for these photographs.

The photographer is fascinated with how we sexualise bodies, especially since sex is ubiquitous yet taboo in society—she uses a “harsh” flash to make her images look more vulgar, forcing the viewers to focus on the superficial aspects of the photo.

Krick has stated that her work that sexualizes an older woman makes people uncomfortable. However, the series also serves to comment on how people look at women in society as they age.

“I photograph to portray beauty as artificial, flawed, threatening, psychological, seductive and garish”, she stated, and she has gained more insight since she started shooting this series seven years ago.

Through this series, the photographer has also had to confront the idea of becoming her mother when she grows older, which is an issue many people grapple with.

Controversial in nature, this creative project bares the truth, showing us that our stereotypical perceptions of older women need to change.
