Iconic Black London Cab To Be Replaced By New Nissan Design

Like the yellow taxis in New York City, the black London cab is an icon of its home city—unfortunately, due to more stringent emission regulations, the existing 20,000 Hackney carriages would soon be taken off the British capital’s streets.

To replace this beloved vehicle, Japanese car brand Nissan has created the NV200 London Taxi—it is the product of a remodelling that took place after the initial design was criticized when it launched in August 2012.

According to Nissan, this latest design aims to “better reflect the iconic nature of the traditional black cab”—it features round headlamps, a remodelled grille, new front bumper panels and a 1.6-liter petrol engine.

The new London cab would be pushed out in December 2014, while a zero-emission version would start operating in 2015.
