Wouldn’t it be cool if you can go to the library and borrow people instead of books, who would tell you fascinating stories about themselves?
“Human Library” is a mobile library project started by a group of Danish youth activists back in 2000—the idea is to get together a diverse group of people and “loan” them out, in order to promote dialogue and understanding.
This simple but brilliant idea of getting people to talk and find out more about one another has since spread outside of Denmark to the rest of the world—some countries have even set up permanent Human Libraries.
This month, the University of Rochester will be hosting its first Human Library, which would be held on 25 January 2014 at the Rundel Memorial Library.
Would you like to be a reader at one of these unconventional libraries—or would you prefer to be a “book”?
