Madrid-based artist Eloy Morales creates incredible hyperrealistic portraits that look like photographs.

Morales has been painting since 1995 and uses himself, family and friends as his subject matter in order to better bring out the psychological aspects of his large scale paintings.

Contrary to the belief that details are integral to creating life-like portraits, he said blending and layering is the key to creating such detailed artworks.

Morales said, “Many people think that my work is based on details, but it is not that way... for me the secret is in the correct valuation of tones... tonal transition must be smooth to avoid abrupt cuts.”

Watch a video below where he talks about his process and scroll down to admire his paintings.
