Squarespace, a web service that lets users create their own websites, has caused quite a stir in the design community with “Squarespace Logo”, its new make-your-own-logo feature.
The feature’s “logos made simple” concept has offended and angered some designers, who felt that such a move lowers the value of good design and perpetuates the myth that logo design is a quick and simple process that anyone can undertake.
However, other designers have supported Squarespace, stating that such a WYSWIG editor may actually make people more appreciative of “human-designed logos”—some found the new function to be similar to existing programs like Illustrator.
