For award-winning author Chang-rae Lee’s new book, On Such a Full Sea, U.S. publisher Riverhead teamed up with 3D-printing firm MakerBot to create a limited edition slipcase for the novel.
The result of the collaboration is a functional work of art that complements the minimalist cover of the hardback version of the book—on the stark white sleeve, the title text is stretched and made to protrude at a sloping gradient.
This beautiful “world’s first 3D-printed book cover” represents a new way to present physical books as art objects during a time when digital books threaten to take over the industry.
Only 200 of these cases are made—each one has been signed by the author, and is available for sale over here.
