A group of of innovative students has found a creative way to raise money for charity by targeting the current self-obsessed generation—the “Selfie Police” website issues a “fine” of US$1 for every selfie that is taken, which is then donated to a good cause.
According to co-founder Chas Barton, the project aims to “engage our generation in giving” and is a fun way to “turn selfishness into charity”—one can either turn oneself in to the Selfie Police and “pay up”, or “accuse” friends and family to get them to do the same.
To spread the word about the campaign, supporters can tag their friends’ selfies with “#selfiepolice” in order to point them towards making a donation.
100% of the proceeds would be going to Vittana, an organization that provides student loans to college aged kids in third world countries.
