Artist Creates ‘Decaying’ Paintings As Visual Representation Of Neglect

New York-based artist Valerie Hegarty’s series of decaying artworks is a study of what happens to fine art over time, if they are neglected.

Featuring artworks in various states of decay, paintings can be seen melting and dripping to the ground. Wooden frames, due to exposure to the elements, have grown out to become unruly branches.

Her works are a very visual representation of the "waning powers of a nation and fractured affairs of state."
