‘Mæt’ (meaning ‘Full’ in English) is a thought-provoking photo series by Danish photographer Per Johansen that explores animal rights, over-consumption, and ethics in the meat industry.
Using plastic containers and bottles as metaphors for the human stomach, Johansen stuffs them with animal products like chicken, eel, sausage, liver and fish.
Grotesque and definitely hard to look at, they resemble a sordid science experiment where the specimens are preserved in glass beakers.
According to the project info, written by Charlotte Kim Boed: “Nowadays, prosperous countries and consumer society gorge on vast amounts of nutrients, where genetically engineered food, e-numbers and pesticides are utilized to promote the global and lucrative food industry sales statistics, while an increasing number of consumers have to undergo obesity surgery or get psychiatric help. What is your food consumption like? Are you full now?”
