With The Amazing Spider-Man 2 poised to kick off the summer blockbuster season, the team at Halloween Costumes has come up with a timely infographic that charts the sartorial evolution of everyone’s favorite webslinger.
‘Spider-Man and his Amazing Threads’ looks back at his many costume alterations since his comic book debut 52 years ago.
Apart from his classic red and blue suit with black webbing detail from 1966, Spidey donned a sleek black ‘Symbiote’ suit with a large white spider icon in 1984, and a ‘Scarlet Spider’ sweatshirt-and-bodysuit combination in 1994, amongst others.
The infographic also includes specially-designed costumes like the Mexican Day of the Dead-influenced suit from 1992, featuring a skull-like arachnid design and winged webbing under the arms.
The advent of the original big screen trilogy in 2002 saw Spider-Man’s costume designs taking inspiration from the look of the classic suit; they would be further refined and updated in the reboot.
