Imaginative 3D Illustrations That Are Not Drawn But Hand-Sculpted From Clay

At first glance, the whimsical work of Madrid-based Spanish graphic designer and illustrator Irma Gruenholz looks like very well-executed drawings that have been made on a computer.

In fact, each of her imaginative illustrations have been painstakingly hand-sculpted from modeling clay—after creating the characters, building and objects required to bring a piece to life, she would then carefully light and photograph the scene.

There is a wonderful tactile quality to these colorful illustrations—every one of them is filled with delightful and intricate details, a reflection of the immense amount of effort that has been invested in them.

Gruenholz’s work has been featured in magazines, books and advertisements—to view more of her impressive portfolio, head over to her website.
