In India, A Restaurant Where Customers Dine With The Dead

Fancy dining with the dead? There’s a restaurant in Ahmedabad, India, where you can do just that.

The New Lucky Restaurant is built over a Muslim graveyard and features approximately 12 open-ground coffins scattered amongst tables and chairs. Instead of demolishing them, owner Krishan Kutti wanted to preserve them as a sign of respect–he and his staff clean the graves and place fresh flowers on them every morning. They are protected by metal railings to prevent people from touching them.

Locals believe the dead are followers of a 16-century Sufi saint buried nearby. It seems diners aren’t fazed by their presence; the restaurant has drawn curious visitors eager to savor thalis and sip tea alongside the buried.

“The graveyard brings good luck. Our business has been flourishing because of these graves. It gives people a unique experience,” said Kutti in an interview with the Mirror.

Definitely not for the faint-hearted or squeamish, its grisly dining concept certainly makes for a suitably ghoulish time–we forsee it being a hit during Halloween.

Would you relish dining with cadavers or does the thought of eating next to coffins put you off your food?
