Infographic: The Science Of Happiness

The topic of happiness is one that has been heavily discussed and debated in recent years–you only have to look at the numerous editorials, opinion pieces and advice from experts online to know that we are obsessed with happiness and how to achieve more of it.

To help us better understand happiness, the folks at Happify have created an infographic called ‘The Science of Happiness’ that explains the science behind this elusive and fleeting state of mind.

According to the infographic, 40% of our happiness is controlled by our thoughts, actions and behavior, 50% is genetically determined while the remaining 10% is determined by our circumstances.

Happy people heal faster after injuries, have lower rates of heart disease, volunteer and donate more, have deep relationships and are more productive at work.

The infographic also reveals that nurturing strong relationships, having new experiences, helping others and being grateful for what we have all contribute to higher levels of happiness.

Ultimately, the takeaway is that we have control over our happiness and with time and practice, we can form habits to make our lives more satisfying and fulfilling.
