With body image being a hot topic in the media, it is no surprise that UK lingerie company Bluebella would try to figure out what types of bodies men and women would perceive to be perfect.
According to their survey, which is made up of digital composites of various celebrities, women preferred thinner bodies while men preferred larger ones. Ladies also thought that the “perfect” woman should have the Duchess of Cambridge’s hair and Jennifer Aniston’s breasts—men, in contrast, preferred Kim Kardashian’s boobs and Megan Fox’s face.
It seems like the differences are less distinct when it comes to an “ideal” man’s body—both genders preferred a sculpted torso, although men seem to prefer Hugh Jackman’s biceps over those of Brad Pitt.
Although many of us may be disheartened by this survey, we should note that these images are unrealistic in nature, and that it would be virtually impossible to have all of these “ideal” traits. It is also interesting to note that many of those surveyed excluded good-looking celebrities of other races, such as Oscar-winnning actress Lupita Nyong'o.
This survey shows how people perceive ”perfection” under the influence of the media—it is no surprise that many of us feel like we ought to look like these celebrities and models as we are confronted by their images every day.
