A lucky man by the name of Andrew Smith is the ‘Chief Funster’ of New South Wales, Australia. Smith will be paid US$93,000 for this position, and all he has to do is travel around the state and have fun, promoting it as a destination.
Smith has been ‘Chief Funster’ since December and is supposed to accumulate 802,000 “moments of fun” over a period of six months. Each moment represents the type of fun that can be found in a square kilometer of the state.
So far, Smith has been skydiving, abseiling mountains, and hanging out with pro skateboarders. This is only the tip of the iceberg—he is only halfway through with more than 480,000 moments.
“My schedule through to the end of June is jam-packed with great events and travel experiences,” he said. “I’m going to be climbing the Sydney Harbor Bridge, swimming with dolphins in Port Stephens, attending the world premiere of Strictly Ballroom: The Musical, and being part of the much anticipated Vivid Sydney Festival.” If you are a fan of the British motoring show, Top Gear, you would be envious as Smith gets to drive around with The Stig.
Smith also remarked that the challenge wasn’t about having fun—it was fitting it all into this short period of time.
Many people have been keeping up with Smith’s adventures on social media and would like to accomplish what he has done—it seems like Smith has done a good job of promoting New South Wales as a destination by stirring up wanderlust.
