French artist Miguel Chevalier has transformed a church floor into a ‘Magic Carpet’. As the title of this work suggests, Chevalier projected colorful lights onto the Sacre-Coeur church floors in Casablanca, Morocco, creating this beautiful and vibrant work of art.
Chevalier was invited by The French Institute of Morocco to create this interactive installation, which changed according to how the viewers moved within the space—this created a kind of dialog between the viewer and the work of art, making the installation more interesting.
Some of these patterns were inspired by Islamic art and mosaic artworks, and this influence is reflected in the different projections. This installation was also accompanied by the music of Michel Redolfi, creating a calming and serene atmosphere within the church.
