London-based international architectural practice Make has designed stunning origami-inspired architectural kiosks in London’s Canary Wharf.
The two kiosks they have created are constructed out of aluminium panels sourced from metal recreators Entech Environmental Technology Ltd. They follow the principles of origami folding and are joined together with hinges that work like the folding of paper fans.
The kiosks can be opened to reveal a small retail space. They are beautifully finished in black and have a sculptural and enigmatic presence even when its shutters are shut.
The entire design is lightweight, constructed off-site and delivered pre-assembled. They are also durable, easy to maintain, and vandal/graffiti-resistant.
Originally designed for the London Ice Sculpting Festival in Canary Wharf in January, these exquisite kiosks will be a mainstay in the district for a long time.
