Photographs That Show People Of Different Nationalities Giving The Finger

A French photographer who goes by the pseudonym of Jolipunk has come up with a photo series titled “Fucking Tourist”.

The idea for the series began when the photographer was on his travels and asked to take a picture of one of the locals. The native refused, stating that he had posed for a photograph once and found his face on a postcard, as though he was an “object of folklore”.

This made Jolipunk think about his role as a photographer in today’s world, and he realized that many of his peers tend to exoticize and objectify people in the countries they travel to.

Instead of merely taking photographs of locals, he asked them to flip the bird when photographing them. Many people gamely posed for photos, with expressions that seem to confront the gaze of foreigners.

So far, the photographer has traveled extensively—Jordan, Peru, Turkey, and Bali are some examples of the countries he has been to. We wonder if he will keep up with this project and venture to more countries.

Check out this unconventional portrayal of humanity below—this series reminds us not to objectify foreigners and recognize them as people.
