The internet has been abuzz with reports of a new gold-colored iPhone for the last couple of days—the story has been published on numerous credible sources, including TechCrunch and All Things D.
If Apple does add gold to the iPhone color palette—so far, the company has declined to comment on this—it will be the first color to be added to the device since its debut in 2007.
This piece of news first broke on Apple news website iMore last Friday, where editor-in-chief Rene Ritchie even did a mock-up of what he thinks the gold iPhone would look like—according to him, it is more likely to be in an elegant champagne color than a tacky, yellow gold shade.
In addition to the new color option, it has also been reported that the next iPhone may feature an innovative fingerprint scanner, which will strengthen the protection of personal data—the phone may also come with the “death sentence” feature of the iOS 7 that remotely shuts it down and renders it useless for any unauthorized user.
What do you think about these changes to the iPhone—exciting updates or much ado about nothing?

The new gold iPhone will not likely be in a gaudy, tacky shade like this.

This elegant champagne color is more in line with Apple’s aesthetic.
